DOJ Expected to Announce Deal on Huawei’s Meng Case Friday

(Bloomberg) — Huawei Technologies Co. executive Meng Wanzhou and the U.S. Justice Department are expected to announce a deal on Friday to resolve criminal charges against her, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn, New York and lawyers for Huawei have been locked in a battle over evidence since the case was first unveiled in early 2019. The company recently lost a battle for more evidence from the government based on material that the U.S. filed in its extradition request for Meng in Canada.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the agreement would allow Meng to return to China.

In the original case, the U.S. alleged that China’s largest technology company stole trade secrets from an American rival and committed bank fraud by violating sanctions against doing business with Iran.
