Italy’s Salvini says hopes to have new president on Friday

ROME (Reuters) – Italian League leader Matteo Salvini said he hopes parliament will elect a new president on Friday, telling reporters that he would shortly propose non-partisan candidates to the centre-left bloc.

Italy’s parliament has failed for four days running to pick a new head of state, with the main political blocs floundering in their efforts to find a mutually acceptable candidate for the powerful role.
