China should watch economic impact of domestic, external factors, says premier

BEIJING (Reuters) – China should attach great importance to the economic impact from domestic and external factors that have exceeded expectations, Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday, according to state TV.

Policy measures that have already been drawn up need to be implemented in the first half to stabilise jobs, prices and economic fundamentals, Li told a State Council meeting.

The government’s determination to stop the spread of record COVID-19 cases has clogged highways and ports, stranded workers and shut factories – disruptions that are set to take a heavy toll on growth in gross domestic product in the second quarter.
