OMV says new supply system to offset Schwechat refinery shortfalls

BERLIN (Reuters) – OMV said on Friday it was putting in place a new supply system to make up for shortfalls at its Schwechat refinery following a mechanical incident that damaged a main distillation unit for crude oil last week.

It said it could not yet estimate how long it would take to make repairs at the refinery.

It said last week that the incident would partially delay the start-up of the refinery, which had been undergoing a maintenance overhaul since April.

OMV said on Friday it was using capacities of its refinery network to make up for the loss of production in Schwechat so it could temporarily supply the Schwechat site with feedstock and the Austrian market with larger product volumes.

It is also maximising the distillation capacities of a smaller crude oil distillation unit, which means OMV can still process all crude oil it produces in Austria.

In addition, it is considering short-term adjustments to further increase the Schwechat refinery’s existing production capacities.

OMV also said it would cooperate with partners to buy in products to make up for shortfalls.
