Opinions of the Day: Tavern shoots point to a lack of adequate policing

In the opinion pages today, the recent shootings at taverns across Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal indicate that our law enforcement is not dealing with the wave of crime, meanwhile, support for the ANC has rapidly disappeared in recent weeks due to the ongoing load shedding crisis.

Business Day writes about the recent tavern shootings over last weekend that saw 21 people killed in three separate incidents. While the reasons behind the shooting are as yet unknown, the publication points to the deeper problem of inadequate policing to deal with these shootings.

 

The publication cites the recent quarterly police statistics, which it says indicate that police are not adequately coping with the onslaught of crime washing over the country like a tidal wave. Read more here.

Carol Paton argues that support for the ANC has disappeared at a fast rate over the last couple of weeks given the inability to deal with the ongoing energy crisis.
