Cyril Ramaphosa has had a difficult week as both state president and leader of the ANC party as not only did the pro-Jacob Zuma ‘Taliban’ faction win control of KwaZulu-Natal at the provincial elective conference but former president Thabo Mbeki took aim at Ramaphosa with a raft of criticism.
But Adriaan Basson writes that Mbeki needs to be honest about his own time in the Union Buildings and how many of the country’s largest woes began during his tenure as president.

Commentator Justice Malala writes that the ANC believes it is the only vessel that can help steer the ship and solve the mountain of problems that face South Africa.
Malala contends that it is precisely because of this deluded self-belief that the party is wrong that it should be trusted with fixing the country and that for all the ANC’s calls for unity within the party it cannot escape the warring factions within the party that want to loot and steal.
