Opinions Today: What the ANC KZN conference means for Ramaphosa

In the opinion pages today, Qaanitah Hunter thinks the war for control of the ANC is only just beginning following the recent shock election of a RET-aligned faction at the KZN conference. TimesLIVE opines that Cyril Ramaphosa’s lack of transparency regarding the alleged Phala Phala farm robbery is hurting him.

Hunter writes that the outcome of the recent ANC provincial elective conference held in KwaZulu-Natal over the past weekend shows how much politics is a numbers game following the landslide defeat of incumbent chairperson and Ramaphosa ally Sihle Zikalala to Siboniso Duma.

 

Hunter continues by noting that battle lines for the larger war, which includes the ANC national elective conference later this year, have been drawn with a slate of younger, pro-Jacob Zuma factions of the party winning provincial elections and bolstering the chances of someone challenging Ramaphosa nationally.
