Good morning. Today we’re covering Eskom’s meeting with business leaders to solve the energy crisis, the ANC will keep the ‘step aside rule’ for now, and the Women’s League wants more female leadership in the party.

 

Eskom, business meet to discuss solutions to electricity crisis – TimesLIVE

 

Eskom has resolved to work with big business to solve the energy crisis through practical and impactful solutions that will lead toward a sustainable electricity supply.

 

In a session hosted by the JSE and Business Leadership SA (BLSA), Eskom CEO André de Ruyter shared the power utility’s strategy with CEOs and company leadership from over 70 private institutions.

 

De Ruyter called on the captains of industry to “co-ordinate efforts towards supporting the strategy by pursuing opportunities to make investments and realising savings benefits from the reforms of the electricity industry as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.” Read more here.

 

‘Step Aside’ will not be stepping aside: ANC’s policy conference ends with promise to hold the line – Daily Maverick

 

During the ANC policy conference held over the weekend at the Nasrec centre, the party resolved to keep the ‘step aside’ rule in place after party president Cyril Ramaphosa made a strong case for the policy to be retained during his opening speech to the delegates.

 

Ramaphosa said “South Africans would not forgive the ANC” if the party abandoned the step aside rule amid a move from the KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo branches to have the rule changed significantly or scrapped entirely. Read more here.

 

Top eight? ANC Women’s League wants more deputies in party leadership – and half of them to be women – News24

 

The ANC Women’s League made a bold proposal that the party should increase its leadership grouping known as the top six to a top eight by adding a further deputy president and deputy secretary general.

 

The Women’s League would like the party to have two deputy presidents and two deputy secretary generals along with the president, chairperson, secretary general and treasurer.

 

Furthermore, ANCWL national coordinator Maropene Ramokgopa said the party should have a 50/50 gender quota for the top leadership. Read more here.
