In today’s opinion pages, Qaanitah Hunter wonders whether DA chairperson Hele Zille is correct in her assessment that black leaders resigning from the party is meaningless. Songezo Zibi writes that he is jealous as a South African of how the US unemployment rate has dropped to the lowest in 50 years.

Qaanitah Hunter writes that the recent resignation of a 20-year party veteran, Makashule Gana, from the DA was made into another story of how the party is haemorrhaging black talent but the chairperson of the party, Helen Zille says race has got nothing to do with the latest exit.
Hunter opines that Zille may be correct in her assessment that people come and go from political parties and that the reasoning perhaps has little to do with internal race squabbles in the party.
Hunter argues that perhaps the real reason for Gana’s exit from the DA and the preceding exits of talented black leaders has less to do with the party being hostile towards black leaders and more to do with it being stale and unable to offer a viable vision for the future of South Africa.
