Good morning. Here are the important stories you need to know today:

Sabotage at Eskom — spies and special police team hunting culprits

Eskom has established its own team of spooks to investigate suspected incidents of sabotage at the power utility while the country remains gripped by load shedding. Included in Eskom’s team are its own investigators, a special police investigation unit, and operators from the State Security Agency. The latest incident occurred at the Camden power station where a senior technician contaminated the plant’s demineralised water supply. He was suspended pending the outcome of an investigation. André de Ruyter’s car bugged with ‘highly sophisticated device’

Meanwhile, when the sabotage isn’t going on inside Eskom, CEO André de Ruyter finds his vehicle is bugged with a “sophisticated device.” De Ruyter found the bug underneath the driver’s seat of his car when he was cleaning it. Enlisting the help of private forensic services, the preliminary report states that the device is “typically used by law enforcement and intelligence agencies” and “not commercially available on the open market”. Petrol price cut on the cards, but diesel may be hiked

The latest available data from the Central Energy Fund shows that the petrol price may be cut on Wednesday but if you use diesel, you may be in for a small price hike. The price of 95 unleaded petrol is expected to drop by R1.02 a litre while the price of 93 petrol could drop by around 90 cents a litre. Diesel is expected to increase by between 10 and 15 cents a litre. The possible increase in diesel prices is attributed to the squeeze on global supply demands. (News24)
