Market Wrap | JSE ekes out some gains as Covid-19 cases rise in China

Rising covid-19 cases in China pushed the JSE lower during morning trade on Friday but the local bourse fought back to close the afternoon session in the green ahead of the weekend.

The local bourse added 0.03% with the All Share Index at 73,151 points.

Global peers were mixed with traders growing cautious of covid-19 cases in China while US markets reopened on Friday following a break for Thanksgiving. China’s daily covid-19 cases rose to a record high on Thursday as authorities fight to control the spread of the virus. \

In the currency markets, the rand is trading relatively subdued today having broken the R17/$ mark on Thursday, trading as low as R16.91 against the greenback at one point.

In company news, Woolworths (0.63%) said it would undertake a secondary listing on the A2X Markets with shares available for trade from December 2.

Woolies is the eighteenth JSE Top 40 company to join A2X joining the likes of AngloGold Ashanti, Discovery, Investec, Mr Price, Naspers, Nedbank, Remgro, Sanlam, Sasol and Standard Bank.
