EU Commission likely to confirm Italy’s 2024 growth outlook in June, Gentiloni says

CERNOBBIO, Italy (Reuters) – The European Commission is likely to stick to its current forecast of roughly 0.7% growth for the Italian economy in 2024 when it publishes a new set of economic projections in June, EU Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni said on Friday.

“The Commission’s forecasts indicate a growth of 0.6-0.7% for Italy this year. We’ll confirm them or revise them, but I think we’ll broadly confirm them, in mid-June,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a financial conference organised by The European House Ambrosetti.

The Commission is also expected to confirm its outlook for the euro zone as a whole in June, he said.

Brussels’ current forecast for the currency bloc is 0.8% for this year.

“The forecast that the Commission made a couple of months ago, and which will be updated mid-June, is confirmed,” Gentiloni said.
