Ten bodies recovered after fuel tanker explodes in Uganda

KAMPALA (Reuters) – Ten bodies were recovered from the scene of a fuel tanker explosion in Uganda’s capital Kampala on Tuesday, a Reuters witness said.

Police said the tanker had overturned around 1500 local time (1200 GMT) and that “several people may have lost their lives, while others have been injured”.

The incident occurred in the suburb of Kigoogwa on the city’s northern outskirts, on a road connecting Kampala and the northern city of Gulu, police said.

Videos posted on social media platform X showed the fuel tanker lying on its side as some residents rushed towards it with jerry cans to siphon off fuel.

Other videos showed a large fireball burning the tanker and nearby houses while smoke rose into the air.
