Venezuela opposition party says local leader in state custody found dead

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition party Voluntad Popular said on Friday that Edwin Santos, a local leader and co-founder, had been found dead after being detained by state security forces.

“We hold the regime of (President) Nicolas Maduro responsible for this killing,” Voluntad Popular said in a statement.

Venezuela’s communication ministry and prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
