TOKYO (Reuters) – The Japanese and Polish governments are set to sign a memorandum of understanding on using technologies from Japanese companies in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland, the Nikkei business daily reported on Wednesday.
The deal, which could come as early as Thursday, includes using technologies from Japanese companies such as Hitachi and IHI for building the first nuclear power plant in Poland, Nikkei reported.
To cut reliance on coal, Poland chose Westinghouse Electric to build its first plant on the Baltic sea coast that is set to cost some $40 billion and is due to be fully operational by 2040.
Last month Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Poland will seek financial partners to help fund the construction of its second nuclear power plant.
