TOKYO (Reuters) – Shikoku Electric Power suffered a large-scale blackout on Saturday night and will file a detailed report on the cause and the measures it will take to prevent a recurrence to Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the company said.
The outage affected some 365,300 homes in the prefectures of Kagawa, Ehime, Tokushima and Kochi from 8:22 p.m. to 9:49 p.m. (1122 GMT to 1249 GMT), a Shikoku Electric spokesman said by phone on Sunday.
The blackout likely arose due to a problem with a power line connecting Shikoku with Japan’s main island of Honshu, but the cause is still under investigation, the spokesman said.
The company will file its report to METI within 30 days of the incident, he said.
