Trump sues Iowa newspaper and top pollster, Fox News reports

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit against the Des Moines Register and its top pollster over its final poll showing him trailing in the state before the Nov. 5 presidential election, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

The lawsuit, which Fox said was filed Monday night in Polk County, comes after Trump on Monday vowed to pursue more defamation claims against the media following a settlement with ABC News over the weekend. Trump ultimately won Iowa in the Nov. 5 election.

The suit seeks “accountability for brazen election interference committed by” the newspaper and pollster J. Ann Selzer over its poll published on Nov. 2 that showed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris leading Trump by 13 percentage points in Iowa, Fox News Digital reported.

Gannett, parent company of the Des Moines Register, is also named in the suit. Gannett representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In his remarks to reporters on Monday, Trump threatened to sue the Des Moines Register over the poll.

“In my opinion, it was fraud and it was election interference,” Trump said.
