KYIV (Reuters) -Ukraine, keen for continued U.S. support in its war with Russia, is looking forward to a visit this month by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy for the region, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff said on Friday.
Andriy Yermak said he had spoken to envoy Keith Kellogg about topics including the battlefield situation, the safety of Ukrainian civilians, and meetings at the annual Munich Security Conference later this month.
“The Ukrainian side is looking forward to the visit of the U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, in February to provide comprehensive information on Russian aggression against our country,” Yermak wrote on the Telegram messaging app. He gave no exact date for the visit.
Ukraine has been trying to establish close relations with Trump’s new administration, which wants to bring a quick end to the nearly three-year-old war since Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022.
Zelenskiy will lead Ukraine’s delegation to the Munich Security Conference, which U.S. Vice President JD Vance also plans to attend, Yermak told the Associated Press on Thursday.
Asked about Kellogg’s visit, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said at a press briefing on Friday that it would take place after the Feb. 14-16 Munich gathering.
“I think it’s clear to you all that there will be contacts at the Munich Security Conference, and afterwards this visit,” Tykhyi said, adding that he did not want to give specific dates.
