SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday he is interested in advancing talks for a trade deal between South America’s Mercosur bloc and Canada in order to “diversify and expand our exchange”.
Lula in a post on X congratulated Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney as he completed a comeback victory for the governing Liberals in Monday’s election.
Mercosur – which includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay – has had negotiation rounds for a trade deal with Canada in the past.
