India markets regulator notifies easier registrations for well regulated offshore funds

Jan 16 (Reuters) – India’s markets ‌regulator on Friday ‍notified ‍the final rules aimed at making it easier for sovereign-backed ‌and overseas retail funds to access the local markets, a move expected to ease access for nearly two-thirds ‌of ‌foreign investors.

Well-regulated offshore funds can seek ‌registrations ‍under simplified rules ‌from June 1, the Securities and Exchange Board of India said.

Earlier, the SEBI required offshore firms to seek separate approvals to operate ‌as an offshore fund ‌and venture capital investor in the country.
