TOKYO (Reuters) -Japan will continue trade negotiations with the U.S. keeping in mind the date of July 9 – the end of a suspension to the United States’ “reciprocal tariffs” – though it will set no deadline for talks, top trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa said on Thursday.
“The 25% auto tariff is not something we can accept,” said Akazawa, Japan’s economy minister, repeating previous remarks to reporters before departing for Washington for a seventh round of trade talks with U.S.
counterparts.
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met U.S. President Donald Trump on June 16 in Canada. They agreed to continue ministerial-level talks but did not reach a tariff deal.
