Market Wrap: JSE ends the year down, Rand holds steady under R16/$

After two days of gains, the JSE All Share Index railed late on the last half-day of trading for the year but still lost 0.10% to close the year at 73,709 points with the rand remaining flat and last trading at R15,90 to the Dollar.

Gold traded firmer today, trading at $1,817 at last count. Platinum is down slightly from this morning’s opening price of $966 to $957 at last count. Palladium is down a further 2.4% to trade at $1 933.55.

Oil prices are holding firm ahead of next week’s OPEC+ meeting with Brent Crude last trading at $79.17 a barrel.

Ahead of an expected petrol and diesel price decrease of between 73c and 76c a litre next week, Sasol lost 0.88% today.

Adapt IT announced it will delist from the JSE next week with the Canadian software company Volaris Group set to take over the local tech firm with all the legal hurdles cleared. Volaris made a R7 per share offer for all of Adapt IT’s shares back in April.

Heavyweights Naspers and Prosus added 1.44% and 2.10% respectively.
