Taiwan’s Tigerair to add 15 A321s in $1.3 billion deal

(Corrects to 15 aircraft, not 11, in headline)

TAIPEI, Dec 3 (Reuters) – Taiwan low-cost carrier Tigerair said on Wednesday that its board had approved the purchase of four new A321neo aircraft from Airbus and the lease of 11 more for T$40 billion ($1.28 billion) to expand its network.

Tigerair, majority owned by Taiwan’s China Airlines, has also put down an option to order four more A321neo aircraft, the airline said in a statement on its website.

The 11 newly leased A321neo aircraft are scheduled for delivery by 2031, with the subsequent four purchased aircraft expected to be fully deployed by 2035, it added.

Tigerair, which currently only operates the smaller A320, flies across East Asia with a particular focus on routes to Japan, a popular tourist and business destination for Taiwanese.
