ECB needs to keep close eye on commodity derivatives market: de Guindos

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – The European Central Bank needs to keep a close eye on the commodity derivatives market because price volatility has increased market stress, ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos said on Tuesday.

“The only market we have to look at very carefully is the commodity derivatives because the volatility … has led to an increase in margin calls and some difficulty in honouring these margin calls,” de Guindos told a conference.

“But so far, we have not seen a lot of stress there, and the majority of margin calls have been perfectly honoured,” he added.
