British retailer Dunelm sales rise in first quarter on higher volume

(Reuters) -British homeware retailer Dunelm reported a 3.5% growth in its first-quarter sales on Thursday, driven by higher volumes and a broadened product range as more than a third of its sales came from the digital presence.

The retailer had laid out plans in September targeting a 10% growth in market share over the medium term by broadening its product range and enhancing its in-house brand.

Dunelm said its digital sales accounted for about 37% of the total 403 million pounds ($521.00 million) in sales for the three-month period ended Sept. 28.

The company sells items ranging from bedding, sofas, and chairs to garden furniture, as well as kitchen essentials like cutlery and dinner sets.

“Despite some positive lead consumer indicators, we are still seeing volatile trading conditions,” Dunelm said in a statement.

Retailers in Britain are battling a prolonged cost-of-living crisis, which is limiting discretionary spending.
