Slowdown in German construction reaching ‘bottom of trough’, industry group says

BERLIN (Reuters) – German construction companies expect to see sales slump for a fifth year running in 2025 but there is some relief on the horizon, the ZDB industry association said on Friday.

“Companies are no longer looking deeper into the valley of the crisis, but are increasingly orientating themselves along the bottom of the trough,” said ZDB president Wolfgang Schubert-Raab.

The association said sales were expected to reach almost 159.3 billion euros ($169.04 billion) this year, a nominal decline of 2% or 4% in real terms on 2023.

In 2025, sales are seen falling by 2.5% in real terms.
