China’s Nov car sales rise fastest since January, subsidised trade-ins gain steam

BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s car sales grew 16.6% in November from a year earlier, its fastest pace since January, as government-subsidised auto trade-ins gather steam near the end of the year.

Sales totalled 2.45 million units last month, data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed on Monday. For the first 11 months of 2024, sales were up 4.4% from a year earlier.

Electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid and extended-ranger sales rose 50.5% on year and accounted for 51.8% of overall sales, the fifth straight month that battery-powered cars including plug-ins outsold gasoline cars in the world’s largest auto market.
