Opinions of the Day: The cabinet of incompetence rises again

Imagine the nerves you endure when going for a job interview, it can be quite a process and isn’t always a smooth ride.

For ANC councillors wanting to become the party’s mayoral candidates at the upcoming municipal elections, they will have to be interviewed by an internal panel that will determine the councillor’s suitability to stand for the position of mayor.

Well, one would imagine that when you’re facing such scrutiny, you’ll be coming up against a top-notch panel of interviews particularly considering Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent statements that the ANC would “not stand for wrongdoing, no matter who is involved”.

Ramaphosa further said, “We will not protect any ANC leader, public representative or member who faces charges of corruption or other serious offences. The law must take its course and justice must be done in SA.”

It might (probably not) come as a shock that three of the worst cabinet ministers under former president Jacob Zuma’s administration, Faith Muthambi, Malusi Gigaba and Mosebenzi Zwane are all on these interview panels and all have known ties to the corrupt Gupta family.

Justice Malala writes about the absurdity of the situation in his latest column for Financial Mail. (Subscribe to read).
