Startlingly low voter turnout will leave many a politician biting their nails today as the results trickle in from yesterday’s local government elections.
Some early predictions see the Democratic Alliance holding onto the Cape Town metro and 34-year-old Geordin Hill-Lewis becoming the next mayor, the ANC should hold onto Buffalo City but may struggle in other metros, while ex Joburg mayor Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA is doing particularly well in Egoli.
