In his latest piece for News24, editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson questions the “silent leadership style” of president Cyril Ramaphosa. The article examines reasons why Ramaphosa hasn’t fired Lindiwe Sisulu yet.
Does the president have a long-term strategy in mind?

Will her dismissal trigger a Zuma-like misguided campaign?
While none of the questions have been answered, Ramaphosa’s slow reaction to act against Sisulu could threaten his authority from within Cabinet.

In addition, if Ramaphosa does not assert his authority, the culture of impunity won’t be reinforced, thus weakening the ANC. “The failure so far by President Cyril Ramaphosa to act against Sisulu risks entrenching that culture of impunity. After his office issued a statement saying he had reprimanded her and she had agreed to retract her comments, she put out her own statement in which she essentially called him a liar.”
