The JSE climbed to an all-time high during Monday’s session as investors brace for a week packed with data releases.
The All-Share Index closed 1.08% higher at 80,129 points with closed-end investments (2.55%), chemicals (2.39%), and alternative energy (2.39%) all performing well during the trading session.
This week investors will look to the SA Reserve Bank whose monetary policy committee will meet to discuss how much the central bank will hike the repo rate. Analysts widely expect the MPC to increase the interest rate by either 25 or 50 basis points with the consensus leaning towards the latter.
In the currency markets, the rand has slipped slightly against major currencies. At 05.49 pm, the local unit was trading at R17.1897 against the dollar, R18.6785 against the euro, and R21.2748 versus the British pound.
